The first day we were in the home, we really didn’t move much stuff in. We knew we’d be ripping out a TON of carpet and wallpaper and whatever else we could get our hands on. Day one Travis ordered a dumpster and had that sent to the house, and we really went to town. Here are some pictures to show just how crazy we went the first night…

One thing that really added to the ambience of this night was we had an incredible thunderstorm. I’m not sure it’s stormed that bad since this very first day. (remember we’re two years in) So you can imagine us sleeping on the floor on a mattress in the dining room with the worlds loudest scariest Thunderstorm. In our new house that’s obviously haunted and scary. I kid. Lets not forget How pregnant I was……

ahhhhh let these walls breathe

One thing I’m not sure we even noticed while looking at the house, and going through inspections and such was the most beautiful stain glass window in the parlor. It was buried with layers of curtains, and very distracting wallpaper everywhere. (Incase you haven’t noticed) I remember this day well. I believe it was the second morning of being here. I couldn’t wait to unleash this window and let it be seen!

TA DA!! the most beautiful stain glass window!

Can you believe we missed this window the whole time? What a find! What’s even cooler, is that when you look at the original photo of the home you can see that it’s in this picture. This means this window is 124 years old!! And in beautiful condition! Hello window love. If you look right above the gentleman in the photo (His name is William Foster) that’s where the window is located. That is the front parlor. The rest of the window has been changed because it doesn’t open but at least the stain glass is still in tact! Alleluia!

The revealing of many things came to us in this house and I continue to discover things here all the time. I’m forever hoping to find a secret message written on something behind some wallpaper, or a note tucked into a wall. There’s so many mysteries to old homes which is most likely one of the main reasons as to why I love them so much. There’s something about old houses that just makes my heart flutter. I’m not sure how anyone could ever NOT love a old home. They’re so beautiful and detailed and intricate.

  1. You are so lucky to have such a house! This would be my dream, although I don’t think we’d be able to restore the way you have been doing. It seems quite labour intensive. My husband has a full time job and I don’t think I can do this. Although I’d LOVE to. And with 8 children, the size of the house is dreamy! But in the city of Toronto, where housing is through the roof, I’m lucky we managed a bungalow…. Good luck on all your endeavours! Everything looks gorgeous and dreamy!

  2. It is tough! We both work full time as well, so it’s a lot!!!! But, we’re surviving. Somehow. Our last home was a bungalow and it was the cutest little house ever! So, there’s nothing wrong with a bungalow they’re perfect! Thank you so much for your wonderful words and encouragement!
